Morningside Writers Group is listed among other regional writing groups, writing centers, and workshops that are alternatives to a full time MFA degree program in the April 2009 Cover Story in the Writer Magazine, in The L Magazine, and in Time Out New York.

Screenwriting

Morningside Screenwriting/Playwrights Group is a bi-monthly workshop for screenwriters, playwrights, sitcom and TV writers. The writers in the group have a firm foundation on the craft. The main purpose of the group is to provide necessary feedback to other writers prior to submitting to agents and producers following a tested and proven format.We also focus on the business of writing via pitch meetings, query letters, and personal branding for writers.

Feedback.

We all need someone outside the world we've created to look at our work and be sure others will see on the page what we see in our heads.

Discipline.

Writers are prolific in our minds, and with friends. However, when it comes to actual writing, we are one lazy bunch. A writing group is like a literary chain gang, forcing each member to stay writing to have something to submit when it's his or her turn to be critiqued.

Competition.

Seeing the person next to you turning in ten great pages make you want to do the same. You feel that if the person sitting next to you can write that well, so can you, with a little work.
